War Department Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, Washington, May 17th 1867 Bvt. Maj. Gen. N. A. Miles Ass't Comr Raleigh N.C. General: I am directed by the Commissioner to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 10th inst. with reference to the division of the state into SubDistricts, the assignment of officers to, and to say that the Commissioner approves of the terms of the letter, and that in accordance with your request, it has been recommended that Lt. Cox be relieved and mustered out of service. Very Respectfully Your Obt Servant A.P. Ketchum Bt Lt Col & A.A.A. General [[W? N?]]. 98. Vol 9. 1867.
