allow my young friends to see the picture. At the same time I inquired how you had liked it. Mr. Seligmann was surprised at my question, and answered that you had not seen it. I then said "I'm sure that Mr. Winthrop wants to see it, because he called me up after I had written him of my enthusiasm for the masterpiece. Mr. Winthrop [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] said he was writing you about it." In fact, my recollection was that you said you had already done so though when Mr. Seligmann inquired as to what you wanted him [[strikethrough]] he was[[/strikethrough]] to do, I said I did not know, but that he would doubtless hear from you before long. Telephone conversations do contain possibilities of confusion, especially when various matters like summer plans and autumn plans enter in; but I did think you had said you were writing Mr. Seligmann about the picture. Even so, if I made a mistake in mentioning the fact (or what I thought to be the fact) I am extremely sorry for doing so, and ask your indulgence if an inadvertence of mine has given you cause for displeasure. Hoping your summer will be a thoroughly agreeable one. I am Faithfully yours--
