[[newspaper clipping]] Roxbury Folk See 13 Hoodoo in the Stock-Bates Tragedy If Walter Stock, who shot his sweetheart Miss Agnes Bates, in the waiting room of the station at Ruxbury Crossing on Wednesday night, had kept his promise to attend the reunion of his class at the Bellevue that evening, it is the opinion of many of the good, credulous folk of Roxbury that the fatality never would have happened and that the unlucky 13 who attended the reunion would not now be connected in the public mind with the tragedy. All over Roxbury yesterday the two events were linked in conversation, not as a mere coincidence, but as cause and effect. Stock head promised to attend the reunion, and it was expected that he would put in an appearance before the end of the banquet, and all looked to him to break the unlucky spell of the 13. The first news his classmates learned on leaving the banquet hall was the story of the sooting and the fact that 13 of them had dined together was not forgotten. Stock is now lying at the City Hospital, recovering from the bullet wound in the neck which he inflicted on himself. Hopes for his complete recovery are entertained. At his bedside a police officer stands on guard, beside a nurse. As soon as he recovers he will be arraigned in the Roxbury Court on a charge of murder.
