[[preprinted]] Wednesday, January 6, 1909[[/preprinted]] Mail from home came in today. Gee whiz, l got some leather stuff from the kid that was all the currency. She cert'n'y has got the right ideas, and no mistake. The mails are a bum feature of this joint. There isn't another mail from home now until 27th-, -that's three weeks from today. Of course, not being on the direct mail route to India makes the difference. It's kinder tough on us poor guys with wives at home. [[end page]] [[start page]] [[preprinted]] Thursday, January 7, 1909 [[/preprinted]] Well, there is one thing, anyway, to be profoundly thankful for down here. The Rupee has 100 cents instead of 16 annas. Ceylon and Zanzibar also have decimal coinage now, and it will only be a few years more before the U.K itself will have to follow the lead of the Dominion and her other progressive chicks and throw their confounded shillings and pence out of the window. Wont it jar those guys when it does come? England is now the only civilized nation with a non-decimal coinage.
