A stone hatchet. 24 arrow points lying so as to suggest that they were once in a quiver. beads. oval & square- green. black white. blue & yellow. conch shell fallen to decay. feathers cloth gone to dust & copper rings - Mr Willoughby tells us that he thinks if the Hopewell group of mounds opened by Mr [[Morehouse?]] had been examined carefully as Prof. Putman & Dr [[Mitz?]] do their work. that there would have been found pictures in stone, sand etc. for something of the kind was seen but not saved & carefully examined.- All this is of interest to us for if the Omahas, as seems probably passed on this region long centuries ago. they may have come in contact with these highly developed people. learned from them- & it may be the Sacred Soil - ( for it is soil Mr W. says in the shell.) came from this place.
