Mrs Mehan, wife of Mr Mehan, a famous music teacher was here, & I had a little talk with her. None of them are persons to take up Indian songs, but I shall do what I can to spread the knowledge of them among the musician. They come to dinner this evening, so I shall see them again. I had a talk with Mrs Thaw this A.M. & told her about the "Story & Song". She was interested. No word yet from Mr Carman. I write him today, for I must go Monday — & I dont want his letter sent here after I leave. I do hope he will hurry up, for it is too bad to keep us so long from acting. I have a letter from Mr Hite. He wants an introduction to the Indian Comm'r. Mr Hite wants to be [[strikethrough]] Ind [[/strikethrough]] Special Ind. Agt. thinks he has the political pull to get the place. I will give the letter of introduction but I cant do any political wire-pulling & I wont. I think I will write Mr Hite to call on me on
