Transcription
[[preprinted]] War Department, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, Washington, ^[[May 22]], 1868. [[/preprinted]] Special Orders } No. 65. } I x Bvt. Brig. Genl. [[underlined]] F. D. Sewall, [[/underlined]] Col. Vols. Act'g Asst. Inspr. Genl. will proceed to Georgia and investigate the title to the property known as the Chatham Artillery Armory at Savannah, now held by this Bureau as Confederate State or abandoned property. If necessary he will visit Atlanta and confer with General [[underlined]] Sibley [[/underlined]] in regard to the owner. He will then inspect the Freedman's Hospital at Augusta and report on the management of the Act'g. Asst. Surgeon in charge thereof. Upon completion of his duties in Georgia he will visit Charleston South Carolina and confer with the Asst. Commissioner with a view to reducing the present force of the Bureau in that State. He will then proceed to Raleigh North Carolina and make an inspection of Bureau affairs in that State. [[preprinted]] By order of Major General O. O. Howard, Commissioner.
