13th today. Our group got seven Huns though. [[horizontal line]] [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] On my second patrol I had a terrible experience which, for more than one reason I'm omitting from these pages. I suppose I'm an ace now. Got two of the 8 Huns I fought for ten minutes, from ten miles into [[Herrland?]] and from 5000 meters to 1000 meters in region [[Mars-la Farro-Lachansie??]]. God above knows how I escaped. Sept 14th Vittel I'm [[?]] an account to Ruth now. Lieut-Colonel Johnson and Captain Bridgeman banished Swaab and [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] me from camp for a few day's rest. It's nice here. I'm just a bit nervous yet. See letters to Ruth x [[ditto marks]] mother destroyed x [[ditto marks]] others (?) This fighting period was the climax. Too hectic for writing a diary conscientiously. See flight books too!
