Bureau Refugees Freedmen and Abandoned Land Head Quarters Sub Dist of Robeson Lumberton N.C. Sept 12th 1865 This Indenture made and entered into on the 12th day of Sept 1865 between Wm Phillips of the County of Robeson and State of North Carolina of the first part and the undersigned Freed Laborers of the second part Witnesseth that the said [[strikethrough]] Phillips [[/strikethrough]] Laborers have agreed to work for the said Phillips from the 27th day of April to the 1st day of January AD 1866 The said Phillips agrees to pay the said Laborers fifteen bushels of Corn. The usual rations of food Clothing and ordinary Medical Attendance William his X mark Phillips Essick his X mark Cobb Squire his X mark Phillips Witnessed [[signature]] F McQueen [[/signature]]
