9 not to. Then he said he would (or rather I asked him if he would) pay the bill for the pockets I had ordered for Esther and myself, when we were together. So I gave him the $20. and the bill and he gave me back the photos, and I thanked him for what he had done in the matter. He asked my address and whether I should mind his writing a few times while I was away. I said no I should be glad to hear from him but I was a very bad correspondent myself, (not allowed to write, he interrupted) and should like to hear the news. I thought that was a good excuse for letting him write. He spoke about taking a trip himself, perhaps going South for a few weeks, & said as he has several times lately that he did not expect now to go abroad in the Spring.
