YOUTH ASSEMBLY July 8-13, 1980 PACIFICA HOTEL CULVER CITY, CALIF. ALPHA BETA KOPELLES, Los Angeles — Host A Message from your National Youth Coordinator DORIS M. WILLIAMS During Youth Assembly, 1978 in Washington, D.C. it was noted through your group presentations, emphasis was placed on involvement in community services. It truly must have been a gratifying and rewarding experience. It was decided by the body to continue our theme for another year. "Unifying to Cope with Realities of Society through Involvement in Community Service." Through your community service in recreation centers, nursing homes, day care center, hospitals and churches, I know you have grown and eveloped through your acts of kindness, friendliness, sincerity, and thoughtfulness to other human beings. During your service to the community, you also discovered that these people needed you and wanted what happiness you could bring to them. It was noted that during this Kopelle year, you were involved in a wide variety of services to your communities. I will name a few of them. 1. Service to needy families 2. Service to a drug rehabilitation center 3. Service to a girl scout troop 4. Service to the special Olympics for the handicapped. 5. Service to the Multiple Sclerosis Association 6. Service to St. Anne's Infant Home 7. Service to a Senior Citizen's home 8. Service to a college on "Career Day" 9. Service to a day nursery What a joy you must have felt as a Kopelle to participate in some of the services listed above. I feel as if these experiences made you more mature in your thinking, gave you a sense of pride, gave you an opportunity to plan activities with other young people, and made you feel a sense of dedication in making the needs of others, one of your first priorities, and developed your talents to serve others. Because of your role as a Kopelle and giving service to your community, Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority, Inc. is deeply proud. Remember, let your plans for your future always include some type of service to others. I have always found that my role as a volunteer at Provident Hospital, for the past five years gave me a sense of being needed and an opportunity to show acts of love and friendship. It has been a personal sacrifice that has brought new meaning to my life. So congratulations on behalf of Lambda Kappa Mu Inc. for a year well spent in serving your community. As your Kopelle year draws to a close, I know you have enjoyed these valuable experiences. This summer will again be an excellent opportunity for you to grow in the principles and ideals as members of Lambda Kappa Mu Kopelles. LAMBDA KAPPA MU SORORITY INC. The ideals of LKM Kopelles are synonymous with the ideals of the sponsors, Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority, Inc. These ideals have been formed into four principles: SISTERHOOD, ACHIEVEMENT, SERVICE, and SCHOLARSHIP. Kopelles strive for excellence in scholarship, achievement, and service. Since 1962 Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority has organized and sponsored groups of young girls from various regions of the United States.
