2nd with his throat cut from ear to ear. The case was brought before the Grand Jury and is now under going investigation. Another case: Wherein Daniel Moore, Pleasant Gilmore & Stebney Kelly (colord) late soldiers of the United States Army, appeard before me and made oath to the following. That on the 2nd of this month, they returned to their homes near Brooksville Noxube County, Miss, when they were set upon and fired at by a party of cittizens by the names of Dr R.S.C. Foster, J Kirksey, James Daily, Thomas Powell, Eaton Turner, David Turner & others, and that they were compelled to fly for their lives. The above named party of cittizens burned the clothing (U.S. uniform) belonging to Henry Slaughter (colord) late a Soldier in the U.S.A. who had also returned to his home near Brooksville. The majority of the people in this county have treated the Freedmen very well while some have treated him badly. And the latter class have shown more hatered for the negro, and made their threats more loudly
