[[underlined]] ACTING AS AGENTS FOR THE ESTATE OF CLARENCE H. MACKAY [[/underlined]] September 15th, 1941 Dear Baron Cassel: Thank you for your lines of September 13th. I hasten to let you know that the second pair of "appliques" is similar to the first, but for the patine, the one you have seen being black and the one you haven't seen being "natural". My cousin tells me that they were hanging in Mr. Mackay's home in the same room and that one could hardly notice any difference when they were on the wall. As regards the price, in view of the negotiations we had on your behalf for the first pair of "appliques", I surmise we should also be able to obtain the second pair for $1,700. According to information which was given us, it would appear that Clarence Mackay paid $15,000. for one and $13,500. for the other and purchased them from two differ-ernt firms whose names have not been disclosed to us. Hoping to have the pleasure of seeing you soon, Very sincerely yours, (Georges E. Seligmann) Baron Cassel van Doorn Oxford House 115 South Oxford Avenue Ventnor, New Jersey
