Dear Doris: We drove out to Ballston this morning & got 3 buckets of dirt from mother's favorite robbery place along the RR. As we were carting off the last bucket a man with 2 dogs came down along the RR. and gazed at us rather intently & then turned around & walked back. He didn't say anything but he acted as though he had a personal interest in what we were doing. I dug up a little part of the garden when we got home. This afternoon we drove up to Plummers Island and walked down thru the woods to the water but didn't go across, as the rocks were covered & the temporary ferry boat had a good deal of water in it. The spring peepers were singing in the little pond on the mainland. They stopped when we walked in & sat down, but finally began again before we left. We found spring beauty & veronica in flower, as well as chickweed, but nothing else except maples & elms. The season is the latest in my recollection. It hardly seems possible that a week from today we shall be down in the Carolinas. I hope it warms up somewhat before then & doesn't rain all the time. Mr. Bryan has been digging holes on his land today. I thought it might be for shrubs or trees but mother thinks for some buildings or other, possibly an arbor. She wants you to be sure to bring some additional clothes this time as well as your toilet things, & to let us know when you are going to arrive. If by any chance you should fail to do this, go to the telephone room in the station & wait for us there. Love, DHB
