5 She thinks we are awfully lucky to get in here - They have tried so many horrid places - Every one says the same thing - We saw the Austins for a few minutes today - And they directed us to another cheap restaurant - the 'Faisan d'or' - We went in to the little low ceilinged room full of men - and I whispered to May - "Only men!" And the host promptly replied "Il n'importe" in a fatherly way and sat us down to a table - The big madame as usual was behind the desk, and we had her to look at - And two other women soon came in - It is a restaurant "à prix fixe" 1.franc 25.c. (22½ cents) We paid 3 francs for both of us, and had four courses and wine, and all delicious - We had consommé Soup - croquettes with tomato sauces (cat perhaps, but good all the same) potatoes sautés, & salade - chocolate cream and maccaroons - We have all we want to eat here, and a nice variety of even plain things, but Miss Haistes says Mille watches what you eat and then provides the exactly right amount for each person. So we eat up every crumb. Whether we want it or not for fear of having less. Marie comes in the morning soon after
