dark that in the morning I lay in bed. Wondering what was wrong with my watch, and trying to figure why the night should seem to drag so. When a knock on the door woke me fully the landlord saying "What's the matter, old man, it's ten o'clock." I got up, raised the curtain but could not see beyond the window. It was dark. All lights on the streets were lighted - and many times during the day one standing beneath a lamp post could not see the light. It was dark. I have brought Jim Gray's painting over to the bed room which by the way is large enough to use as a studio for much of my work now is on a small scale. I am painting a portrait of this Dr.King.. Fortuny style. Tell father that I was delighted to hear from him. And that I am to make an arrangement with Mr. Chamberlain by which I may receive some substantial advertising. Shall paint them in their own home. Small full length portraits. I have a number of small paintings under way which I hope to finish this next week. My cold is better, and in other ways I feel out of sight no pains in that place that (?) with jelly. Shall show Mr. Sargent some of work in a day or two, three or four
