✓ SAN DIEGO: OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS 0001 LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA 92093-0001 FAX: (619) 534-5355 October 26, 1994 SALLY RIDE, DIRECTOR California Space Institute 0221 SUBJECT: Space for the KidSAT Project I am pleased to let you know that the General Campus is able to provide the KidSAT project with additional space in the Chemistry Research Building (CRB). To create a laboratory for curriculum development and a prototype mission control center, the CRB laboratories (rooms 113 and 114) will require renovation. I have agreed to fund these renovations because I understand that the grant funding expected from NASA and NSF will not include renovation costs. In addition to laboratory space, two offices (rooms 117 and 118) will be assigned to the project. Work to refurbish the offices has already begun. Please coordinate further renovations and outfitting with Helen Szkorla in my office. A program that has students designing instruments, which will be sent into space to take real-time images of the earth, is a very exciting and pioneering undertaking. I wish you the best of luck and hope that when you're "up and running" you will invite me to see UCSD's mission control center. Sincerely, Marjorie Marjorie C. Caserio Vice Chancellor - Academic Affairs c: R. Atkinson R. Attiyeh H. Szkorla M. Wiskerchen J. Woods UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA--(Letterhead for Interdepartmental use)
