There doesn't appear to be a correlation between people who are susceptible to motion sickness on the ground and those who are susceptible to space sickness in orbit. Some pilots, who are apparently immune to motion sickness in aircraft have suffered terribly in orbit; some people who become queazy even watching a merry-go-round have felt no symptoms at all. [[right margin]] Pre-flight: rotating chair, to try to determine correlation....none. Off-vertical...any correlation? Admit they don't use it for prediction.[/right margin]] [[left margin]]Scop-dex used to be req'd….doesn't seem to help or hurt ...now left up to the astronaut [no reliable way to prevent it or cause it][/left margin]] Men and women have both experienced space sickness. Not many women have had the opportunity to go into space, so the statistics aren't reliable, but so far the percentage of women who have gotten sick is lower than that of men. There have been, and will be, all kinds of theories and rumors about causes of space sickness and possible antedotes. I've even heard people mistakenly claim that no astronauts have gotten sick on flights that included women, contending that the men on the crew would have been too embarrassed to allow themselves to get sick! Space sickness is not like classic "sea sickness". It can take many forms, and its symptoms very from person to person. Unlike sea sickness it is usually not a debilitating condition: those astronauts who are affected are still able (though sometimes reluctantly) to carry out their duties.
