[[Letterhead]] THE ARTISTS GUILD | THE FINE ARTS BUILDING CHICAGO | E.M. Ericson Managing Director The Artists' Guild Fine Arts Building 408 SO. Michigan Boulevard Telephone Harrison 5244 Paintings Sculpture Jewelry Hand-Wrought Objects of Art Framing Restoring Artists' Materials [[/Letterhead]] February 21st, 1918. Mr. Henry O. Tanner, Les Charmes, Trepied par Etaples, France. Dear Mr. Tanner: We sold your picture entitled "The Shepherd" to Dr. I. M. Cline of New Orleans for $600.00, but as we made the sale through the New Orleans Art Association, under whose auspices we made the exhibit, we were obliged to give them a 10% commission, which means that we only actually received $540.00, but on account of war conditions we accepted it, feeling sure that it would meet with your approval. We promised Dr. Cline to write to you and ask you to address a letter to him direct, telling where the picture was painted and anything that you can that would be of particular interest to the owner of the canvass. He is very enthusiastic about you and your work and will be a good "shouter" if you can give him something to shout about. We have been looking forward to receiving some other canvasses from you, but evidently the war has prevented you from sending any. However, we hope that you shall be able to do so soon, because we can at least make an occasional sale for you. If we had more to show, we would sell oftener. Please be kind enough to acknowledge receipt of the check that we are enclosing, so that we can make sure that it reaches you. Otherwise, we will have to send a duplicate. With kindest regards, and best wishes, we are, Very truly yours, THE ARTISTS' GUILD E.M. Ericson Managing Director EME:KL
