240 Saguinus geoffroyi, July 16, 1966, IV. Then I stop observations 11:15 a.m. COMMENTS: The ♀ of this pair seems to be taking care of the young to a much greater extent than I would have expected. This may be a "side effect" of captivity. Possibly the ♀ does not get as "tired" of the young as she would under natural conditions, simply because she does not have much room to run around in (?). SEE ALSO ACCOMPANYING SCHEDULE. Both parents were relatively "inert" throughout the period of observation this morning. Much less active than the Pinchés in neighboring cages. They also performed relatively very little Allogrooming. Certainly a mated pair would have performed much more Allogrooming, when close together, (at least) a few months ago. NOTE: At one time this morning, a large branch fell to the ground, with a loud crash, about 30 ft away from this group of cages. Immediately, all the animals (both the parents of the young and their neighbors) uttered a burst of LW's. All doublets. This would seem to be conclusive proof that the LW pattern of this species is (still) at least partly hostile!!!! This LW was not associated with any other vocalization. I took another, brief, look at the pair with young again this afternoon 1:15 p.m. Young (still) on ♀'s back. Young still silent. It certainly would appear that small young, with
