The hottest I can remember on the island. Went back to rocks & continued surf & rock series. Am getting very tanned (& sunburned). Earlier, Jan & Bill dropped by for a drink of last night's punch. I showed them my new drawings - not much response. I should remember that one's most valued [[strikethrough]] inv [[/strikethrough]] accomplishments and most personal achievements are very seldom shareable. Watered whole garden thoroughly in anticipation of water shortage ruling. 2 Oklahoma roses opened today - as beautiful as anything I've seen in roses. Sun 26th The picnic with Werbes to Seal Ledges is cancelled because of a heavy fog. And the heat. Good day to stay in - stretched a 40x44 canvas (!) for an acrylic ptg [[painting]]. First large one of the summer. Started it outside in the soft light of a hazy foggy afternoon & used one of the surf drawings as a base. Going well. After supper Mike L. dropped in for tea. At 11 I spotted 2 deer in swamp & threw rocks at them. What a way to end the day. Mon 27th Gerard Harris stayed in aft. to look at my work. Claire Nicktern came earlier for same reason. Jan came in for chat at suppertime. (We had fresh clams & seaweed rice). Went to Ray's for dessert & tea (with Ray & Helen Stinnefords.) Deer ate up some buds & mallow tops last nite. A deer was in swamp at 11 tonite & another right in flower bed. Barked to frighten them away. Spent [[strikethrough]] all [[/strikethrough]] many hrs. today composing C.O. letter for Billy. So - no time today for myself.
