the soft clouds of mists near being in the clefts + gorges made them the more astonishing. Wanted to sketch - but it was too wet out. Behind the lodge the large mt. took on surprising form, with clouds in layers near its flat summit. Left the Moraine [[?]] Lake Lodge (with much reluctance)--and its magnificent setting of peaks-- + drove on (again) to Lake Louise, this time not so disappointing, as the crowds of tourists were absent, + the lake + glacier more dramatic in the rain. Then to Lake L. Junction P.O. to mail cards + films. Then into Banff- the ranges on the way were like the Colin Range- limestone, horizontally layered with fissures [[?]] + trees. Then to Banff + up to Funnel Mt. to a cabin motel (Scratche's Bungalows)- +a drive to the surrounding country to see more mts + lakes. Then into town: a very interesting village - like Carmel + the Village - surrounded by jagged peaks - walked the warm drag - had supper there - shopped - + then back to Funnel Mt. Thurs Wed 9/8/66 And so the summer draws to an end - but what [[?]] first furnishing 2 or 3 interesting [[torn off]] : a trip on the lift up Sulphur [[?]] Mt. in [[torn off]] mts. all around, + a green valley below - I could not afford to get involved, having seen
