12 open water of summer-- 3d cold and disagreeable temperatures 2 degrees to 14 degrees 4th A duplicate of the preceding days--temp. 2 degrees to 19 degrees 5th Temp 4 degrees to 21 degrees. In the morning the full moon arose like a glowing ball of gold in a deep blue background. One of the most glorious sights one can witness is the rising of the full moon in the short spring night in the high latitudes--as the sun goes down in a bed of richest dyes, which hangs along the western horizon for hours as though both to leave, in the last rises an arc of rich purple and crimson twilight below which a deep indigo blue seems to float out the leaves as with its rich hues gradually the mass of colors in the west become fainter and fainter and step by step like a slowly moving curtain rises the purple and orange twilight belt until it reaches the zenith then slowly advances toward the west
