6 1866 May 14 the year 1866- Deft was to receive for his services, $12.50 per month also 100 lbs of meat, House, garden & fire wood free of charge - Complaint was made of some breach of contract on the part of Deft (Capt Evans who heard & decided the matter did not state what) which was satisfactorily arranged __________________________ May 17 Squire Hawkaday F } vs } Settlement A.L. Davis } Matter of mutual accounts, Squire presented an a/c for blacksmithing amounting to some $20 Deft brought set offs which were admitted reducing Plffs claim to $1.40 which was paid in my presence _____________________ May 22 Mary Cook (F)} vs } Trial Nancy, J. Perry. } Violation of contract. Parties appeared before me & testimony taken - Plff and her husband were to have the use of a cabin rent free for this year provided they would make it habitable, Deft wishing one of her servants to occupy part of it - Plff & her husband with another man worked four & a half days repairing the cabin - Deft now wishes to dispossess them - By my advice Deft entered into a written contract with Plff, agreeing to let her & her husband occupy the place without molestation until Christmas such case disposed of 7 1866 May 23 Mary Green (F)} for her son Jack } vs } Trial James Vaughn } This was a claim for money due from Deft to Plff for the hire of her son - Mary lives in Wake Co & Deft in Granville, & they agreed to have it tried before me - Testimony not taken & the amt found due Plff was $15 - Which was paid to Plff – _______________________ May 24 John Mason (F) } vs } Settlement W. H Moody } Money due on contract this case was to have been tried this day but I recd a note signed by both parties to the effect that they had settled their dispute. __________________ William Mason (F)} vs } Trial William Smith } Plff claimed $6.00 bal due for labor & proved it - Deft introduced a witness to prove that he had paid Plff 1.75 in goods - Bal $4.25 paid to Plff. _________________________ May 26 Louisa Speed (F) } vs } Trial Thomas Speed } By verbal contract Plff was to work for Deft from Feby 1st to Dec 31/66 for $44.- She has recd 6.00 in money & one pr shoes – Complaint of ill usage &c. Wants
