I persuaded her father to locate here with his daughter, in order that our Freedmen might have the opportunity of going to school. The effect of her teaching, together with that of the S. School, has been that more over 80 of our Freedmen can read pretty well. In the S. School we try to teach them to read & have been very successful. But we have no house, only a "shed." I am corresponding with some Comts who have promised to assist them in building a house which will be so constructed, (i.e if I am to manage the building thereof), so that a School-house & church will be under the same roof though separated by a partition. If your Bureau could assist a little it would be very acceptable. But I will not insist upon it,
