L.R. 64 OASS. Ark 1869 Enclosure We have the promise of Free Schools and have just commenced under that system; but as there is so much prejudice and [[strikethrough]] bitter opposition [[/strikethrough]] bitter opposition to us, I fear we shall make a failure unless we can get aid from the government. We need seats and desks for our school room, and should have some few of the essential fixtures and apparatuses of every good school. If the Government can afford to allow us $25, or $30 per month for rent, fuel, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] &c, I think we can sustain ourselves with what we can get here, at any rate, we will make an effort for another year and still continue to toil and struggle on. Our school now numbers 67 scholars in the day school, a few attend at night, and on Sunday our Sabbath School is full numbering upwards of 100. We think your services are demanded here for a short time and hope you will pay us a visit at your earliest convenience. Hoping to hear from you soon I am very Respectfully Your Obdt. Servt, E.C. Branch
