Notes on Transcribing this page (optional)
This man's name is A. (Ashley) D. Francisco. He had been a teacher before the war. Serving at New Bern, S.C. when yellow fever broke out. Helped stop that. Then was employed by the Presybyterian Freedmen Bureau of NY to start schools for the freedmen in the South. Found his headstone, and info about him online.
