Baton Rouge, La, Sept. 21, 1865 Capt. Pease Dept. of Education New Orleans Sir, Mr. Tucker has I believe forwarded you a report of what he calls an investigation, into certain charges alleged by me against Mrs Hochley[[guess]] but it is quite a farce to call such an examination an investigation. I made those charges from information given to me, and I still believe them to be in the main true. My object now is to explain the reason they were not fully established. Mr. Tucker did not know nor did he take the slightest trouble to inquire how or by whom I intended to prove my case. Tuesday last was the day fixed by him with Mrs Strekle Randolph and this appointment was made last Saturday, four days before the meeting - but up to half past two o'clock on Tuesday I had had no notice of the meeting. And if was by mere chance I heard of it at all, for I was out when his message was sent to my house. At a few minutes before three o'clock - the hour appointed -
