Transcription
for pay in kind, to stated salary in money. She further maketh oath that during the Summer of 1865 the said Nathaniel asked her permission to work in a Blacksmith Shop, during the interval between the laying by of the crop and the time for gathering the same, and that she reminded him that he had bargained to help to gather and take care of the crop, and that the said Nathaniel acknowledged that he had and promised that when the time came for further work in the crop that he would come back and assist in gathering the crops and doing anything that might be required in taking care of the said crop. And she further states, that when the time came for gathering the Fodder, She called on the said Nathaniel to come forward and help to tare the crop, and that he refused to do so, and that owing to his failure to help or assist in gathering the crop, that this affiant was obliged to hire other hands to do the work promised by the said Nathaniel.
