War Department, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands. Washington, January 17th 1866 Bvt. Maj. Gen. Wager Swayne, Asst. Commissioner for Alabama. General, I have the honor to inclose to you a communication from a Mrs. Pettaway asking for transportation. Should her situation prove to be as stated in the letter, Genl.
