Jan 12 1866 Breman Wm & Derait Make statement in regard to the children of Jim Beeman freedman and Cany Corters freedwoman who are in the hands of Thos J Worley of Bertie Co. Asking that these children may be returned to their parents who are fully competent to support them. | Bu. R.F. & A.L. Raleigh NC Feb 1st Respectfully referred to Capt F A Seely Supt. E. Dist By Command of Col Whittlesey Asst Cm Beecher njw [[stamp]] The National Archives of the United States [[\stamp]] Feb 3 Respectfully referred to Lt Chas W. Dodge Asst Supt Sub Dist Williamston for investigation and such action as the interests of the Bureau may require. Seely Supt. | | Beaufort NC Feb 2nd Dillon Richard Asst Supt Reports that in the case of the Freedmen arrested in Morehead City that they were released by the Mayor Mr Hugh Murdock of that city in violation of the rules of the Asst Comdr and the orders approved by his Excellency the President and requests instructions | Morehead City N.C. Jan 24th Lt. Harlon E Macarey writes Capt Dillon Asst Supt. that in obedience to telegram from Supt N. Dis. the freedman Henry Clay & Starky Jones arrested by order of the Mayor of the city, must remain in the hands of the Civil Authorities until the case is reported & instructions received. Morehead City Feb 1st Bvt Major Chandler writes Capt Dillon that the Mayor released the prisoners without Authority from the Commander of the Post, upon payment of the following fines, Henry Clay Thirty dollars $30 Starkey Lillery five dollars $5. New Berne Feb 6th 1866 Respectfully forwarded to Col Whittlesey Asst Com for his information. Capt Dillon justly urges that if his construction of Par III Circular 5 is correct he should be supported in its enforcement or be relieved from its responsibility for the present case the parties order from the Supt Comdr as well as the regulations of this Bureau appear to have been disregarded by the Mayor of Morehead City Seely Supt E District | 23 [[2 columns]] |---|---| | Kinston N.C Jan 27th 1866 Fowler Saml P Jr Asst Supt &c Desires to know if Asst Supt have Authority to make arrests of persons suspected of outrages committed on Freedmen Bureau of Refugees &c Washington Jan 31st 1866 Respectfully referred to Col E Whittlesey Asst Com Raleigh NC By order of Major General Howard Max Woodhul Col & Asst Adjt Genl | Raleigh NC Feb 3d 1866 Respectfully returned to L P Fowler Jr through Capt F A Seely Supt Eastern District for future communications will be forwarded through the Supt of your District.
