32 [[2 columns]] | --- | --- | | Stanly John A Continued Evidence of Escheat in case of John Bussington Estate | Bussington a native of Ireland died in 1859 or 1860 leaving one sister Mrs. Jones and her son the only possible heirs Young Jones formerly resided some years in New Berne but having been convicted of a felony of which the penalty was death. Judgement was suspended on condition that he left the United States On or about March 25 1861 it is asserted that Mr. Castix Adm'r of the Estate said that he had a letter from England announcing his death. If living he still cannot inherit being an alien nor can he return and accuire a domicile on account of his crime. Mrs. Jones is also an alien. Castix the Adm'r died during the war leaving his accounts unsettled. Both Bussington and Castrix died intestate | | Craven Co NC Philip Pipkin Administrator Requests the restoration of certain property in New Berne NC belonging to John Bussington deceased. | Raleigh NC Jan 27th 1867 respectfully referred to Capt F A Seeley Supt and Fin Agt for investigation & report By Command Col Whittlesey Beecher Lt & AAA Genl New Berne Feb 7th Respectfully returned Letters of Administration have been exhibited. Action to be reported to these Hd Qrs. Seely Capt & Supt E District | | Chocominity, Jan 31st 1865 M N Patrick Makes Statement concerning some of his laborers who are dict. with the Small Pox. | Washington NC Feb 4th 1866 Respectfully forwarded to Capt Seely for orders. I have instructed Mr. Patrick to furnish these men with food until I hear from you. A Coats Asst Supt. Recd E Dist NC Feb 7th 1866 New Berne Feb 9th 1866. Respectfully forwarded to Asst Commissioner NC for instructions what to do in such cases Washington is isolated there are no rations there & transportation for them is expensive there is no surgeon of the Bureau nearer than New Berne Should not the employer in this particular case & others like it be required to see that his hands do not suffer even though not in their debt.
