Wynne.| New Berne March 17th 1866 Respectfully forwarded to Col E Whittlesey Asst. Com the property applied for has been reported as owned by Benton W Stanton. The applicant purchased it first prior to the War. No reason is known why it should not be restored to him Seely Capt & Supt E Dist | | New Berne Mch 14 Hughes Thos I. Asks for transportation for ten (10) freedmen to Mobile Ala. | Mch 15 Respectfully forwarded approved- Out of eighty-(80) freedmen it is reasonable to suppose more than two have been dependent on government for support F A Seely Capt & Supt | 69 [[2 columns]] | --- | --- | | Beaufort March 14th 66 Whitney S T States that Lewis Cheny "freedman" who has been in his employ two years has stolen goods from him & wishes him brought to justice. He is now in New Berne | Bureau Refugees Freedman &c Beaufort March 14th 1866 Respectfully forwarded to Capt Seely Supt E Dist with request that the within named Lewis Cheny "freedman" be arrested & if possible caused to make restitution to Mr Whitney as he is a Merchant from the North & has always as for as I can learn been kind to the freedman of this place. Such abuse of confidence as Cheny has shown does harm to the freedman & should be severely punished. Richard Dillon Capt & Asst Supt. Respectfully referred March 16th 1866 by Capt Seely Supt E Dist to Capt I A Rosekrans Asst Supt for such action as the interests of the Bureau may require. | | Case of Dr Samuel Masters Brought from page 62 | New Berne NC March 17th 1866 Respectfully returned The quarters once lived within are occupied solely by myself & clerks & Dr J H Fleming AAG USA & Dr G E McDonald AAG USA all of this Bureau.
