Respectfully forwarded March 10th by Capt Johnston to Col MC Garber Chief QM Dept N.C. Raleigh NC March 13th 66 Respectfully referred to Capt A L Gear AQM at Morehead City to know what duty Lieut Simpson AAQM. was on to request the services of a boatmen. M C Garber Brevet Col & Chief Q M Morehead City N C March 19th 1866 Respectfully returned to Bvt Col M C Garber AQM Dept NC with the information that Lt Simpson A A Q M was on duty as Briga Quartermaster The boatmen referred to was hired for Brig Hd Qrs. I think the claim valid but believe the voucher as made out in the name of Jim (Col'd) & to certified to have been reported would have been better than it now stands altered for the disbursing officer. The voucher would have been paid by me when I was disbursing but for the alteration when presented without any affidavit A.L. Gear Capt & AQM Raleigh March 13th 1866 Respectfully referred to Cpt Thos P Johnson AQM with reference to endorsement of Capt Gear AQM.
