82 [[2 columns]] | --- | --- | | Washington DC March 31st 1866 Oliver William N By W L Mason Atty For restoration of his property in New Berne NC occupied by Capt Seely Agent, Bureau of Refugee Freedmen &c States that he has been pardoned & has applied before for its restoration Paper handed to Mr Oliver | Raleigh March 24th 1866 Respectfully forwarded. The Office which Mr Oliver claims, is absolutely necassary to the transaction of the business of the Bureau I have not felt authorized to pay rent for offices except in a few remote places where no abandoned property could be found. The QM Dept has declined to furnish Offices. If it is thought best to pay rents in such cases I should be glad to secure an order to that effect E Whittlesey Asst Com Washington DC March 22d 1866 Respectfully referred to Col E Whittlesey Asst Com Raleigh NC for an equitable arrangment of this matter or for recommendation to this office for action By Order of Maj Genl O O Howard Fowler, Asst Adjt Genl Raleigh NC March 28th 1866 Respectfully to Capt Seely Supt &c with reference to the endorsement of Genl Howard Commissioner &c By order of Col Whittlesey Asst Com Beecher A A A Genl Com Dept Bu R.F. & A.L. Report as follows in substance Captain In obedience to orders I have the honor to report that the three buildings referred to would not be of much service to the Bureau if removed. An account of expense and the damage that would result to the materials from removing them.
