24 Asst Comr. [[illegible]] in your earlier letter that [[illegible]] freed people worked on your plantation since the 27th April 1865. that at the time the crop was planted you promised to give them each 48 bushels of corn with [[illegible]] raised on the place You offer to give them just 12 bushels of corn each, as their portion It is customary in most cases under similar circumstances as to give freedmen one half of what they secure I simply suggest this for your information as there are no fixed rates by which you may be governed I am most respectfully yours Chas.
