NATIONAL CONGRESS OF AMERICAN INDIANS 1346 CONNECTICUT AVE., N.W., WASHINGTON 6, D. C. _________ CONVENTION CALL - August 28-31, 1950 Bellingham, Washington _________ TO THE CHIEFS, GOVERNORS, HEADMEN, OFFICERS, COUNCILMEN AND INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE INDIAN TRIBES OF THE UNITED STATES AND ALASKA: By virtue of the authority of the Executive Council of the National Congress of American Indians, I do hereby call the Seventh Annual Convention to at Bellingham, Washington, August 28-31, 1950. Registration of delegates will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the Convention will convene at 1:30 p.m. on August 28. During the past this organization has made considerable and worthwhile effort and progress in carrying out the program heretofore established. Legislation before the Congress and various movements have been influenced by the Executive Council in keeping with authorization granted to it. The National Office in Washington is on a firmer basis than ever before. It is important that as many tribes as possible send one or more representatives to this Convention - or that individual Indians be in attendance - and help to guide the future course of Indians in the United States. The success of a convention depends on active participation by you. Indian Tribes wishing to defray expenses of their delegates to the Convention from tribal funds should consult with the Superintendents of their respective Agencies. A cordial invitation is hereby extended to all those of recognized Indian ancestry to attend this Convention. Convention Headquarters will be at that Bellingham Hotel, Bellingham, Wash. It is important that the Executive Secretary, John C. Rainer, Suite 618, Dupont Circle Building, Washington 6, D.C., be advised as soon as possible by those who expect to attend the Convention. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of June, 1950. N. B. JOHNSON, [[italics]] President of the National Congress of American Indians. [[/italics]]
