Office of the Great Republic 266 F Street, between 13th and 14th. P.O. Address, Lock Box Number 16. Washington, D.C. .................. 1866/ Sir: The Publishers of THE GREAT REPUBLIC invite your special attention to the inclosed PROSPECTUS, which presents its general plan and purposes. It is proper to state in addition, that this Journal will be conducted in the interests of the Great Union Republican party, and in harmony with the general policy of the 39th Congress. It will support the pending Amendments to the Federal Constitution, and insist upon their adoption as a condition precedent to the admission of State representation in the National Legislature. Until the close of the pending canvass, a large space will be devoted to the issues immediately involved. During the Sessions of Congress THE GREAT REPUBLIC will give a clear synopsis of the action and debates upon important measures, and of executive documents and reports. It will be made a complete Political Text book, in convenient form for reference and preservation, and will be provided with a carefully prepared index for each half year. It is believed that the vital importance of the present crisis; the deep interest felt by the masses of the people in the pending issues; and the necessity for a medium to carry into the southern communities such correct information as will insure a just appreciation of the measures and aims of the Union Republican party, not only justify but demand the publication of such a paper at the National Capita. The publishes confidently rely upon such a liberal support in all the republican States, as will enable them to extend the circulation of THE GREAT REPUBLIC into southern localities, which are not only destitute of loyal publications, but are actually flooded with semi-disloyal and copperhead sheets. Knowing the lively interest you feel in the dissemination and predominance of true republicanism, we unhesitatingly appeal to you for your personal aid and influence in behalf o this truly national and necessary enterprise. With great respect, Your Obedient Servant, J.M. EDMUNDS, For the Publishers of THE GREAT REPUBLIC.
