Lincoln Mass Aug. 28th 1865 Major General Howard Superintendent of the Freedmans Bureau General, On the 17th of June I left Richmond for home with the regt. (of 6th Mass) of which I had the honor to be Chaplain - In this capacity I have served in the Army two years & nine months. I have had twelve years experience as a teacher, and six as a preacher. I am 40 years of age, with a wife & family - I humbly desire a position in which I can efficiently serve
