Schenectady 26 Feb 1866 To Whom it May Concern The Rev. Dr. C. Van Santvoord is now a resident of this city. In the fall of 1861, he entered the service of the U.S. as chaplain and reverend in that service until August 1865 in the field in the hospital. About one third of this period was in the Army of the Potomac, and the remainder at Nashville Tennessee. I take great pleasure in presenting and recommending Dr Van Santvoord as an accomplished writer & scholar, a pious [[?]] & eloquent preacher, in high standing in the Church, and in whose welfare I feel deep interest. Hoping for his success in any object he may have in order. I am truly His friend Platt Patten
