Church, dated Atlanta, GA. June 16th, 1866 - relative to an outrage perpetrated on Rev. Robert Alexander (colored) at Auburn, Ala. by citizens of the place. Respectfully referred to Bvt. Maj. Gen. Swayne Ass't Com'r, Comd'g state of Alabama - Chaplain H.M. Turner is a very intelligent and responsible colored man, whose statements can be relied on. Davis Tillson, Bt. Maj. Gen. Comd'g & Ass't Com'r. Office A. Com'r Bureau R.F. & A.L. Augusta, Ga. June 20th 1866. Endorsements continued, from page 234, on Communication from Warren Akin, requesting the assistance of Maj. Gen. Howard in obtaining a Special Pardon from the President of the U.S.: Augusta, Ga. June 19th, 1866. I learn, from reliable authority in the vicinity in which Mr. Akin lives, that his statements are true, except that he is not in poverty - His character as an honorable, upright man, stands high. Gen'l, with the information that I have caused diligent search to be made for Eliza Jordan, but have been unable to learn her whereabouts; and that I am quite sure she is not in this City at the present time. Endorsements on Statement received from Major Gen'l Howard Com'r, (without date), in regard to the state of affairs alleged to exist in certain portions of Georgia, where Agents of the Bureau charge Freedpeople for witnessing contracts in which they are concerned - and orphan freed children bound out without having any provision made for their education, or any stipulation made as to the amount to be paid them - and mentioning a case where a freedman named Granville died of Small-pox, without having received any relief from the Bureau: Washington, D.C. May 31, 1866. Respectfully referred to Gen. Tillson for report - if the facts are as within stated, Gen. Tillson will cause measures to be taken for the case of the refugees and freedmen referred to, and also cause an inspection to be made of the district in which they reside. By order of Maj. Gen. O.O.
