Respectfully returned with the information that immediately upon receipt of the first communication in the case of Handy Outlaw v.s. H A Scott I went to Lt. Farnsworth Depot Q.M. with whom Mr. Scott had made a contract for a supply of Lumber, and handed him the note within mentioned, with the request to secure the amount due upon it, when payment was made to Scott. He informed me that the Contract had gone out of the hands of Mr. Scott to his Bondsman, that upon a settlement very little will be coming to him &c Lt. Farnsworth moreover promised me to do all he can to get the money, and informed me today that no settlement and payment can be made
