Swanson, to whom 200 bags was to sent to Rome, for distribution in Polk County, writes me that it has not yet reached him, Be so kind as to see to it. We have received reports of severe destitution in parts of Beauford District, S.C. and General Scott, of Charleston, informs us that the destitution of so much of that district as lies on the Savannah river, can best be provided for from Savannah. I have no instructions to give you in this matter, and shall leave it for your discretion to act according to what seemed to you to be the facts. Very truly yours, Edward Bright, Cor. Sec.
