703 684-8716 823 South 26th Place ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA 22202 June 22, 1998 Dear Mr. Larsen: In October 1969 I had the honor and the privilege to meet Catherine Filene Shouse at a party given by then National Endowment for the Arts Chairman, Nancy Hanks and her Deputy Michael Straight. Some time thereafter, Mrs. Shouse invited to dinner at her 1916 F Street home. Early in the evening Mrs. Shouse asked my opinion about a red velvet curtain proposed for The Filene Center stage. I told her that it sounded wrong to me. She agreed and said that she wanted to commission you to design a curtain. Later that evening she telephoned you and the commission was agreed upon. The rest is history and you played such a fine role with the original and the enlarged version which followed the 1982 Filene Center fire. And we thanked you and Coral Stephens yet again. [[strikethrough]] Mrs. Shouse moved to [[/strikethrough]] As you know, Mrs. Shouse moved to a Grander Stage December 14, 1994, but what you don't know is that she gave me her home in Naples, Florida complete with furnishings.
