Five Bales of Cotton consigned to you the property of Mrs Ruth Davidson if you have it you will hold it until further orders or untill Mrs Davidson settles with the freedmen who produced the Same You are respectfully requested to answer at your earliest convenience if you have the cotton and your disposition of the same. Genl Gregory to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of 11th Inst, by the hands of Chaplain Rand also the contracts, Freedmen must use their own judgement in working for wages or part of the crop. you will approve all fair contracts See that the rights of the freedmen are protected and see that the main features of the printed forms are allowed in contract.
