This Indenture made this fifteenth day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty six between Koscius K. Kemper, of the City of Alexandria, in the State of Virginia, of the first part, and S.P. Lee, Capt. 45th Regt. U.S.I. and Superintendent at Alex. Va. for and on behalf of the Bureau R.F. & A.L., of the second part, witnesseth: That the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the rents and agreements hereinafter mentioned to be paid and kept by the said party of the second part, his successors in office or assigns, hath granted, demised and let, and by these presents doth grant, demise and let unto the said party of the second part his successors or assigns from month to month, with the privelege of retaining same for one year from the date hereof at the monthly rent hereinafter mentioned commencing at the date of this Indenture, the property on the West side of Washington Street between Cameron and Queen Streets in the said City of Alexandria which was conveyed to Wm S. Kemper by Bery. Hallowell with the exception of that portion lately divided and set off from the main lot and building by a fence erected by the party of the second part which is now occupied as a school house by the said party of the first part: yielding and paying therefor monthly the sum of fifty dollars. And the said party of the second part doth hereby covenant that he will well and truly pay the said rent of fifty dollars monthly, commencing at the date hereof, so long as he occupies the said property; and upon failure to do so, that the said party of the first part may reenter upon and
