I can substantiate, if necessary, and ask him to order a restoration of the only piece of property left us by the vicissitudes of the war, to my family, to shelter them this coming winter.

I have ventured to presume upon our limited acquaintance and your former friendship for my brother, Robert West, so far, as to make the above request.

Should you succeed in obtaining the necessary order, please enclose it me at this place, or in case of failure, write me the reason assigned.
