Office Supt. and Provost Marshal of Refugees, Freedmen AND ABANDONED LANDS, HELENA, ARKANSAS January 20th, 1806 Brig. Genl. J.W. Sprague Asst. B.R.F. & A.L. Little Rock Ark. General. The letter relating to the property of George West which you wrote January 2d. did not come into my hands until to day - or I should have answered it much sooner. The House in question is occupied by the wife and family of Said West, and Mrs. Susan Horney and a couple of lady teachers of our Colored Schools. The arrangement was effected by mutual agreement between the ladies, and Mrs. West I understand expressed herself well satisfied at getting back one half of the house at the present time. The necessity exists for holding one half the house for shelter for the ladies who are working hard in the cause of humanity and education, and
