Transcription
All Official Letters to this Office must be addressed to the "Second Auditor of the Treasury," and in replying to Letters from this Office the initials on the upper left hand corner should be referred to. Treasury Department, Second Auditor's Office, May 3rd., 1871. J H.T Sir, The claim in the case of Wilson Davenport Co. "L" 6th. U.S. Co. Hy. Arty. is suspended. On the 23rd. March 1867, Peggy Wilson of Waterproof Parish, La, "Mother" filed an application, thro Simon M Preston (now James Dickson his successor) Natchez Miss., - She states that she, was the mother of the soldier, & that Robert Wilson "Father" died in the state of La, in July 1864. - Richard Wilson, Wordley Drumgo, and W.H. Harrington her former owner, corroborate her statements. - On the 6th. May 1867. - The said Atty. filed another application in the case, in behalf of Rosa Davenport of Natchez Miss, claiming to be "Mother". - She states that she was mother of the soldier, & that Harry Davenport, "Father" of the deceased, died in Adams County Miss in March 1863. - Toney Merill & Peter Beverly the identified
