State of Arkansas County of Jackson } ss I Wm K Patterson of said county being duly sworn do depose and say that some time in 1860 or 1861 as Attorney for Messrs Phelps & Jones then [[strikethrough]] and now [[/strikethrough]] merchants doing a common business in the city of New Orleans, State of Louisiana, I brought two suits against Joseph M Green of Jackson County for large debt. Said debt was settled as a part of it was settled by a transaction between several parties, resulting in the execution of a deed by James M Turnstall and Thos Turnstall Executors of W W Turnstall dec'd to Phelps & Jones of New Orleans to contain town lots and houses in the town of Jacksonport Ark. Which and was made and executed on the 31st day of August AD 1861, and recored 26th Oct 1861. Said property in the same is now occupied by the officers in command of the United States troop now on duty at Jacksonport as Hd Quarters. Phelps & Jones the owner of said town lots and houses have never been citizens or residents of Jacksonport
